Writ is Law?

What dooms may come when mankind balks
At holding to what we think as
Sacred Writings, Strict Holy Laws
Of how to live, behave ourselves

What dooms are there when Holy Days
Become profaned by doing tasks
That have no link with true worship
Of Gods on high who gave us life

What dooms are seen in truth in world
From Holy Ones scorned by mankind
Self righteous fools who think that they
Are armored well, in hour’s rite

What dooms I ask have come to pass
I think it plain for all to see
Our world becomes coarse, dangerous
When all is Want and nothing Need

I was born in March 1957 to ethnic European, blue-collar, Roman Catholic parents in western Massachusetts. I am the 12th generation born in Massachusetts along one line and 2nd along another. I have one brother, two sisters, and am the oldest of my generation of my family (first cousins included). The first two defining characteristics took strong hold; number three did not. My parents raised my siblings and me to be individuals, about which they sometimes say "We did too good a job." But, I have earned their respect for and pride in how I've lived my life thus far. I started dating my lady (Anita) in February 1978, we wed in June 1982 and we are still together. She is my heart and I refuse to contemplate life without her. There have been good times and bad, but loyalty and love have seen us through. I have a $5.00 mind, but I've made a career of working at Nickel World. I love learning, but have lacked self-discipline. I finished my bachelor's degree in August 2013, 38 years after I started at Norwich University, the military college in Vermont. I read, write, cook, brew, sew, craft (leather, cloth, wood and metals), garden, walk, listen to music, watch movies and work at a job where the boss trusts me to do my work with little to no supervision. My wife and I have 3 cats, Miss Teia Honey, Sir Thomas Cooper and lord Buffingham, who are loving, entertaining and aggravating; just like Queen Victoria, Calamity Jane (the grey Sisters), April Dancer, Cerridwen Blythe, Silver Kestrel, Hildiekatt Halfshadow (the K Sisters) and Chesapeake Bandylegs before. Both my wife and I are veterans of US military service, constitutionally conservative, fiscally sensible and socially "laissez faire." We both believe in a "Higher Power," though I am much more religious (being a follower of Asatru) than my wife (who is best described as an agnostic-deist, social Christian). I work in "Big Box" retail. My wife is a disabled vet with a small VA pension, who has returned to work as an aircraft test engineer after a long period of healing. We do not make friends easily, but once a friend, you are a friend for life. We are also not real good at keeping in frequent communication. Anita and I have many interests in common, but also things we each like to do that the other does not. This is good, as we are never "stale" for each other.
